Q 1. What are seven key elements define an organization’s structure? Using the University of North Texas (or any organization you are familiar with), describe what one (1) of the elements “looks like.” 2. We have just listened/read about Northwestern University football players being declared ‘employees of the university’ in our Lesson/chapter 14 media story. Which one (e.g., you may wish to selection more than one) of the Key Design Elements would be mostly likely used to establish the ‘structure for the new football-employee’ members of the university? Discuss your selection. 3. After you have listened/read our media story, you will know about the Bassett Furniture firm and its struggle to remain profitable. I have placed this story in our Organizational chapter; however, you have covered multiple topics in our chapter--- leadership attitudes, style, motivation, team work, etc. In your opinion, what topics from Chapter 14 (leadership style, etc.) or other parts of our course, do you feel are exhibited in our media story. In other words, what course topics did you find exhibited in the Bassett Furniture media story?

The seven key elements of the organization structure are the following: Departmentalization, Chain of Command or hierarchy, Span of Control, Centralization, Work Specialization, Formalization and Decentralization. For the university, I would choose the element ‘Chain of Command’ and ‘Formalization’ to explain. Hierarchy or the path following which a command flows is something that every organization has. In some places, hierarchy is very evident and in others, it is less evident but if there is no hierarchy, then, a task cannot be completed maintaining a proper and formal format.
